AutoCAD history

AutoCAD is a commercial engineering application from Autodesk, Inc. (Autodesk) that allows engineers, architects, and designers to create 2D and 3D drawings, presentation materials, and animations.

The software was first introduced in 1982 as a desktop application that ran on a personal computer with an internal graphics controller. It featured point and click editing and the ability to create complex drawings and animations.

In 1987, Autodesk launched AutoCAD for Windows, a DOS application based on the previous desktops. From there, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows 3.5 in 1989, which included 3D modeling features.

In 1991, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows 3.0. This version introduced Mac OS support and data portability, a feature that allowed the data and programs to be transferred from one computer to another.

In 1993, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows 95, which included a redesigned user interface. AutoCAD 3.0 included what was considered to be the first 3D architecture modeling application, creating 3D architectural design in the same way as AutoCAD does today.

In 1995, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows 95, which was the first version to run on Windows NT. It included a number of new features, such as 3D modeling, parametric modeling, and hidden line features. In the next year, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows NT, which had similar features to its Windows 95 version.

In 1998, Autodesk released AutoCAD for Windows 98, which included some of the same features as its Windows 95 version. This version was the first to support Windows 9x as well as Windows NT. In 2000, Autodesk introduced AutoCAD 2000, which included support for 32-bit architecture, scripting, the ability to draw in 3D, and picture archiving and communication (PACS) file support. In 2001, Autodesk released AutoCAD 2001, which included a new user interface and a new drawing panel for Windows. AutoCAD 2001 also featured a 3D modeler that allowed designers to build 3D models from 2D drawings.

In 2002, Autodesk released AutoCAD 2002, which included an updated user interface. Autodesk also launched AutoCAD Architect, a dedicated 3D modeling and design application, and AutoCAD LT, an inexpensive entry-

Assembly and Manufacturing CAD

Autodesk MDA, formerly Metadynamics, is a multidimensional data analysis solution for data analysis, business intelligence and visualization. It was introduced in 2006, although the AutoCAD MDA functionality had been available since 2002. It is a large, very detailed application and a general-purpose solution.

The toolkit includes the base model, shown in the bottom left of the screen in the above photo. Models may be edited by selecting them and then using the “edit” tools. A model can be shared with others who have the right to edit and view the model. MDA supports a wide range of analysis, including regression analysis, correlation analysis, logistic regression, hierarchical cluster analysis and clustering, non-negative matrix factorization and factor analysis.

The interface is similar to Excel’s, with common tasks supported, such as:

Select a row or column
Copy/paste
Calculation
Delete a sheet
Save or open a workbook
Use a filter

It is possible to add a data visualization tool in the MDA GUI.

Multiuser modeling

MultiUser Modelling (MUM) was an AutoLISP implementation of a multiuser workspace that allows multiple users to work on a CAD model simultaneously. It allows features such as simultaneous annotation and revision. MUM was supported in AutoCAD from 1987 to 1992.

PlanCAD

PlanCAD, a CAD engine that supports numerous file formats, is included in the free AutoCAD 2011. It can be used in Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android.

Drawing engine

A basic drawing engine was included with AutoCAD from the release of AutoCAD 2014. This feature enables the user to draw 2D and 3D objects by editing a drawing object. This new drawing engine is based on the C++ class library ObjectARX. As of AutoCAD 2017, the previous drawing engine had been replaced with a more powerful one called LineARX, that was used in all the 2018 releases of AutoCAD and the more recent 2019 releases of AutoCAD Architecture.
