In addition to this, this module can also “understand” a “follow” a “pointer”, so if you define a pitch CV as a “+” above a “pointer”, that means that it has the pitch “pointer” as its input. It’s just like “pitch bend” in a guitar except that a “bend” takes a chord, not a single pitch.

Modulator Envelope:
The envelope is a sine, triangle or noise source that is (initially) sinusoidal. Each modulator can have an option to limit the range of the sine wave that feeds into the envelope oscillator. This means that the envelope can have three possible shapes:
– Sine input, full voltage, full amplitude (A=0, D=0, R=1)
– Sine input, no range, full amplitude (A=0, D=0, R=0)
– Square wave input, no range, full amplitude (A=0, D=1, R=1)
Modulator Oscillator:
The oscillator can be any subtractive mix of timbre values (such as from a patch bank). The amount of oscillator is either controlled by a fixed value CV (A=0, D=0, R=1) or from the incoming MIDI pitch (A=0, D=1, R=1) or aftertouch (A=0, D=1, R=0).
The output from the oscillator can be fed into:
– the audio wave form pitch (also fed from the MIDI pitch) to effect tremolo (or pitch modulation)
– the audio wave form pulse width (only any use on pulse waves) to effect pulse width modulation
– the filter cutoff
– the filter resonance
– the overall volume (also fed from the MIDI velocity and aftertouch) to effect vibrato (or amplitude modulation)
– nowhere!

The PLJ module was designed as a “user friendly” analogue synthesiser, using modern digital techniques. The internal oscillator is a triangle wave, though any other waveform (square, sine…) can be used with no problems.
Only 24 bit resolution is supported for the oscillator and volume. All other modules can use the full resolution of the input CV. The oscillator controls are all full range, in the 0 to 12v range. It is recommended that any user work with lower amplitude levels. The average output level on the module is about 4v.
The PLJ module has as many as 2 A/D converters per module, but only one is used. The way this works is that a number of modules can be cascaded together using the exact same input, output and A/D converters. The input range from each module is 0 to 36 volts, but the output from an entire bank of

The way you can use it:

Share/Download its soundset straight from your browser with just a click. A soundset of PLJ Modular consists of up to 90sound files, including both one-shots and sustained tones in stereo (WAV, AIFF, AU, etc.). This soundset can be used completely free of charge in your Soundscape software or in a plug-in for a host of other digital audio tools.

Steady PanControls the rate of the incoming CV on/over the oscillator. If the CV is flat, the oscillator is not affected. If the CV is biased above the upper limit, the oscillator will speed up (up to 1v). It will speed down when the CV drops below the lower limit (0v).
At a very low rate, the oscillator will go through a number of harmonics for a sustained sound. Think of using this for a low tempo groover (without the noise) or high tempo (with noise).

Pitch ControlTriggers a pitch envelope. It goes from 0 to 12 octaves. At a minimum rate (lowest pitch) you get single notes or single chords. At a maximum rate you get harmonics or full octaves.

ToneControlSets how much of the outgoing CV is multiplied by the input CV. At 0, only the input CV is present. At 1, the whole CV is passed through. In the video, I used 0 for all controls, except for the low-pass filter curve.

The PLJ Modular generates a 6dB/octave low frequency oscillator which has a 20dB/octave depth (velocity range), and can also be easily modified to modulate the pitch rate, gain and or depth (by controlling the “rate” or “depth” modulator). For example, to achieve the sound of 4 voices in a unison, simply set a “pitch” modulator to any of 4 note numbers and set a “rate” modulator to its lowest velocity (the lowest MIDI control that your controller will send).

There are two types of pitch wheel.

Wavers: control the range of the pitch (0 to 127) by moving a knob left or right.
Resonators: control the depth of the pitch (0 to 127) by moving a knob up or down.

You can set the number of whirs to appear as CV control by simply setting the “numerator” and “denominator”. The length of the vibrato is controlled by the “rate” modulator.
